Today — 5 October — the Day of Education Workers is observed in the Kyrgyz Republic.

History and significance

By a 2014 Government resolution, the Day of Education Workers of the Kyrgyz Republic was designated to be celebrated on 5 October, a date observed in more than 100 countries as World Teachers' Day. World Teachers' Day was established by UNESCO in 1994. The day aims to draw attention to the status of teachers in society and their role in education and development.

Statistics

According to the National Statistical Committee, more than 113,000 teachers are employed in the republic.
