About the census

The population census is a large-scale study carried out by national statisticians worldwide on the recommendation of the UN every ten years. It is the oldest form of social analysis known to humanity and remains the only method that has not become obsolete over millennia. In our country the census was due to take place in 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic, unfortunately, caused changes to that schedule.

Why the census is needed

It is conducted to accurately identify and implement the country’s socio-economic development prospects.

• 1However, new dates for the Population and Housing Census of the Kyrgyz Republic have already been set. The census will take place from 25 March to 3 April 2022.
• 2Information on the size and composition of the population is required for the preparation of budgets at all levels. Planning in education, health care, construction and social support is also impossible without data on population size and composition.
