The multipurpose laboratory module "Nauka" with the Proton-M launch vehicle will be launched from Baikonur to the International Space Station on 21 July at 20:58:25 Bishkek time (17:58:25 Moscow time).

Flight and docking

Its flight to the International Space Station will last 8 days and docking to the Zvezda module port is scheduled for 29 July at 16:26 (MSK). The undocking of the Progress MS-16 cargo spacecraft together with the Pirs docking compartment, whose place on the ISS will be taken by the Nauka module, is planned for 23 July.

Re-entry into the dense layers of the atmosphere and subsequent sinking of the non-combustible structural elements of the spacecraft and the module will occur in a non-navigable area of the Pacific Ocean 4 hours after undocking.

Purpose of the module

The Nauka module is intended for research into advanced technologies, space biology and physiology, space materials science, cosmic ray physics, and for Earth and Solar System observation from space.
